Plastic Runway Construction Standards

1.The standard runway has a total length of 400 meters and should consist of two parallel straight roads and two bends with equal radius. Except for the grass runway of the southern Zhejiang plastic runway, the inner side of the runway should be demarcated by a protruding edge made of suitable materials. The protrusion is about 5 cm high and at least 5 cm wide.

2.The length of the runway should be measured 30 cm away from the inner edge of the runway. If there is no protruding edge, the measurement should be carried out 20 cm away from the outer edge of the marking line. Note: The "IAAF Track and Field Facilities Handbook" contains all technical information about the runway structure, design, and marking. This rule gives the basic principles that should be followed.

3.For track events of 400 meters and below, each athlete shall have a lane with a minimum lane width of 1.22 meters and a maximum lane width of 1.25 meters. The lane width shall be 5 cm. All lanes shall have the same width. The length of the first lane shall be measured in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 2 above, and the length of other lanes shall be measured 20 cm away from the outer edge of the inner lane.

The construction of the plastic track is based on asphalt or cement, and the basic method is roughly the same as that of road construction. The flatness of the foundation surface is required to be high to ensure that the thickness of the plastic surface layer is consistent and the elasticity is uniform. The quality requirements for the foundation are as follows:

Slope: Horizontal <1% (curves 8‰, straights 5‰, semicircular areas 5‰), longitudinal <1‰, high jump areas <0.4%, the surface should be flat and smooth, and drainage should be unblocked.

Flatness: The pass rate of flatness is more than 95%, and the error of 3m ruler is 3mm.

Positioning: For the needs of accurate construction and line drawing, use firm and clear markers to mark the four semicircle tangent points and two circle centers of the runway field.

Drainage: The drainage system must drain the accumulated water two hours after heavy rain. In frozen areas, it is best to add a geotextile buffer layer between the asphalt layer and the gravel layer. Special waterproof treatment should be done along the foundation of the drainage trench.

Strength and stability: The foundation should have a certain degree of strength and stability, with a uniform and solid surface, no cracks, no rotten edges, and straight and smooth joints. The mat is compacted and the density is greater than 95%. After being pressed by a medium-sized roller, there is no obvious wheel marks, loose soil, waves, etc.
